To give you an idea of what to expect from Honda’s new hybrid vehicle, we’ll be comparing the new 2023 CR-V Touring Hybrid with the popular and proven 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid.

Under the Hood

A hybrid vehicle’s powertrain is the very thing that makes a hybrid what it is. It’s much more than “just an engine.” Hybrid vehicles are specifically designed to give Honda drivers the best driving experience possible while benefitting the environment and maximizing driving range. 

Both the 2023 Honda CR-V Touring Hybrid and the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid share a 2.0-litre, 16-valve, Atkinson cycle DOHC, i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine. However, even though both vehicles share the same engine, their distinct design differences alter how their horsepower and torque output. 

• The 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid has an engine horsepower of 143 with 129 lb.-ft of torque. Combined with the electric motor, you can anticipate a total combined horsepower of 212 with 232 lb.-ft of torque. 
• On the other hand, the 2023 Honda CR-V Touring Hybrid has an engine horsepower output of 158 with 138 lb.-ft of torque. Combined with the powerful electric motor, the 2023 CR-V Touring Hybrid is capable of 204 horsepower and 247 lb.-ft of torque.

As you can see, the comparison is a pretty tight race! It really comes down to preference. City-centred drivers may prefer the 2023 CR-V Touring Hybrid engine as you’ll find it has slightly faster acceleration due to its higher torque. Highway-centred drivers may prefer the higher horsepower of the 2022 Accord Hybrid, as it’ll be slightly smoother to maintain high speeds over a long distance. 

Lower Emissions for a Green Future

As hybrids, you can expect these beautiful vehicles to reduce your carbon footprint significantly. The 2023 CR-V Touring Hybrid and the 2022 Accord Hybrid are part of Honda’s 80-year-long commitment to the environment. 

The 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid emits 117g/km CO2. With the segment average for this class of vehicle as high as 176g/km CO2, the accord has 33% lower emissions than direct competitors. Rest assured that you’re significantly lowering your carbon footprint with the 2022 Honda Accord!

The 2023 Honda CR-V Touring Hybrid emits 180g/km CO2. For reference, the segment average is a shocking 219g/km CO2. Simply, the 2023 CR-V Touring Hybrid has 18% fewer emissions than vehicles of the same class.

As demonstrated, both vehicles have lower emission outputs than vehicles in the same class. The result here is similar to the last test – it’s up to preference. You’ll find lower overall emissions in the 2022 Accord Hybrid; however, the emissions from the 2023 CR-V hybrid are noticeably lower than similar vehicles.
